I literally used to get so excited to go to my grandmother's house when I was a kid because we always got to eat sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast (my mother NEVER made this so it was a treat!). Now that I'm in college, I definitely dont get to eat it very often. That is until I started living with my roommate Sarah who literally makes it once a week.
So I was recently in the grocery store buying ingredients for another recipe when a serious craving for this deliciousness. So I went and found the stuff I would need to make it...turns out it only costs about $6!! hello cheap!
I used this recipe that I found on the Jimmy Dean website
these are great bc you dont have to wait for the sausage to cook and you can freeze them to keep them on hand! And they come in turkey sausage too for a healthier option!
Ingredients:
- 1 can of biscuits (I used the pillsbury golden flaky ones)
- 1 package of Jimmy Dean Hearty Sausage Crumbles
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- salt and pepper to taste
Follow the instructions on the can of the biscuits.
While the biscuits are baking. Add sausage crumbles to large skillet and cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes
Once sausage is cooked stir in four.
Next add milk and cook until mixture comes to boil and begins to thicken, stirring constantly.
Once it comes to a boil reduce heat to medium-low and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Once it has thickened add salt and pepper for taste.
Cover biscuits with gravy and enjoy!
